College Logo on Skis - Why Not? |
People love to show their team pride. Professional and College sports logos can be found on nearly everything that will hold ink or thread.
Team logos can be found on Shirts, Hats, Coffee Mugs and Bumper Stickers. Heck, here in Virginia Beach there are more Virginia Tech T-Shirts and bumper stickers than folks wearing those cheesy shirts the tourists buy from the Oceanfront shops.
But how about snow sports equipment. I have never seen a Snow Ski or Snowboard emblazoned with graphics of a Pro or College team. I see it as a potential Mother lode for someone willing to tap into this market.
Broad market for College Students and Alumni
My search of the internet found no custom ski builders or snowboard vendors who personalized skis or snowboards with College logos. With all the college students and alumni riding the slopes you would think some entrepreneurial type would have tackled this broad market of skiers.

College Logo Skis |
This would be a good fit for an existing ski builder or graphics company to sell as an aftermarket add-on to a pair of skis or snowboards. Your first hurdle is to obtain permission to use the logos.
Tips For Marketing College Logo Skis
In order to apply for a License to use any college logo for product advertising you first need the approval of the Collegiate Licensing Company. The CLC oversees the application process for anyone wishing to brand any product bearing the name, likeness or logo of a College for commercial purposes.
They base their approval on a number of factors, mainly whether or not the usage of the school logo is attached to a brand or product that will represent the school in a good light. Wouldn't you want your good name associated with something that makes you look good?
I can't think of any reason that a school would have any problem associating their school name with something as wholesome as snow sports. So folks, bring your college pride to the ski slopes. Be the first to market a new line of snow sports equipment featuring college logos. I may even be your first customer - assuming you include my school.
RECENT UPDATE: Since writing this article I found a company called CollegeSkis.com that sells limited edition University of Colorado themed snow skis built by Skilogik of Breckenridge, Colorado.
The CU themed skis are being offered as a part of the University of Colorado's Athletic Department and ski team fundraiser. They have attractive graphics of the Colorado mountains combined with the CU college logo. Go to the CollegeSkis.com website for more details.
